It's not about not wanting to follow a list of rules, it's more so the fact that very many of us make excuses to why we can't live like Jesus..
Don't drink, don't go to clubs, don't watch this or don't listen to that are not to stop us from having fun or to ruin our lives, but to help us remember that we should be striving DAILY to live a life pleasing to God, that glorifies God not our FLESH.
How can you minister to an alcoholic when you are drinking with them?
How can you minister to someone who loves going to clubs when you're in there bumping and grinding on somebody you barely know, dancing to music that doesn't glorify God, and promotes sex, drugs & violence?
How can you possibly hear God when your mind is cluttered with the negativity from Love & Hip Hop, Bad Girls Club, and so on and so on an so on?
That stuff plants seeds in your heart and before you know it you'll be doing what you saw them do unintentionally. Those women on those shows are filled with drama, their lives revolve around it! Why would you want to waste your time (something you can never get back) watching that garbage?
Bottom line is this The Holy Spirit lives in YOU! Your body is a temple of God, why would we ever want to pollute it, degrade it, or mistreat it in any way, shape or form knowing that?
Everyone has their own opinion, but opinion doesn't override TRUTH! And truth is we wouldn't dare do any of these things in the presence of Jesus. Like imagine Him sitting right next to you, would you seriously drink that, smoke that, watch that, or listen to that? No. But if yes was your answer, I'm sorry but you might want to find out what God thinks, and when He shows you what He thinks don't ask Him to show you again and again so that you can be for sure He said you couldn't do it secretly hoping there's a chance that you could.
We often hear God clearly about things, and we feel conviction but a lot of us still want to go to God and ask Him is this okay? I'm not sure that was you talking to me or the devil. The devil aint concerned about your soul, so anything that will take your heart from God, he's for it because he wants you to die in your ways, he wants your flesh to overrule you! He doesn't like you, he hates you, he wants to destroy you! He does so through alcohol, drugs, fornication, etc.
Alcohol, drugs, sex before marriage, partying all of these things take our heart away from God. How? Because each and every last one of those things take up either a lot of our time, heart, or money. They become IDOLS!
We are suppose to be WISE in how we spend our time, money and more importantly we are suppose to guard out hearts (Proverbs 4:25). If we spend our time shopping, getting our hair done, nails done, trying to find the right shoes, just to go out and see the same people you see every time you do, you're wasting money and time that could be spent on other things that are more important.
When was the last time you spent 15 mins in front of God, praying and thanking Him for everything that He has done for you?
When was the last time you stayed home on a Friday night to spend time with your family?
When was the last time you went to Church?
We are allowing our Flesh to control us, and we make excuses to why we can't change,
Spend time with God, and see what He has to say about the things that you involve yourself in. Read His word and find out for yourself, when you study the word of God you become more like Him. If you feed your spirit, you will become more and more like Jesus. That saying you are what you eat is true! Your desires should change, your ways should change, your heart should change. It is important to read and study your bible, it's your life manual.
Remember just because it taste good, feels good and looks good doesn't mean it's good for you!

Romans 12:1-2
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Is what you're doing the will of God? Is it good in His eyes? Is it acceptable and perfect in His eyes?

Galatians 5:16-26
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions,
James 1:22-27
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless.

1 Corinthians 3:16-17
Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and YOU ARE THAT TEMPLE.
